Stora Gråbrödersgatan is one of many forgotten streets in Lund. Intersecting the popular Klostergatan in the town center, this location is optimal for further rethinking to increase the exploitation of the area. A combination between the existing properties and the proposed building contributes to a more open and welcoming communication among the quarter. By offering flexible offices for smaller companies in Lund, this add to both a local and bussiness development for the municipality.

By giving the west facade, facing Stora Gråbrödersgatan, an angle an open space  is released by the entrance of the building. This move contributes to a more convivial passage between the street and the adjacent courtyards on the back of the building. Since the plan area is turned to east and west, two light shafts have been placed in a central line towards south in order to get a more natural light flow. This in turn contributes to a more efficient and brighter working atmosphere.

Around the the plan area the material choices consists primarily of brick and stone. The cladding of the new office is larch, which invites the buildings that stands in connection to the plan area to be a part of the new and handled with care. By letting the exterior walls of these buildings create the interior walls in the new office, a link to the past is preserved. The flexibly planned building is mainly based on a social sustainability that offers small companies to rent whole floors or parts of them.

During evenings and weekends associations and young people are welcome to use the bookable spaces in the building and the café on the entrance floor is open to everyone during these hours and workdays.

This is an efficient building that produces its own electricity with solar panels and optimizes the used office space by offering it to those who need a place to operate around the clock.

A collaboration with Sophie Hjertqvist. Thank you!
